Hi, I’m Jason Ramsdell and I am running for Grand County Commission in District 2

About me
I recently retired from a 30-year career in the National Park Service following almost a decade working between Arches and Canyonlands. I am running for Grand County Commission to lend my experience in handling difficult situations, working with public land issues, and my passion for our community.
Working as a Park Ranger has allowed me to live in various places around the West, including Yosemite National Park in California, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Mount Rainier National Park in Washington, and Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. I have gained invaluable experience in dealing with difficult situations, interacting with visitors from around the world, as well as working with small teams to accomplish the goals of the National Park Service.
Throughout my career, I’ve served 30 years in Emergency Services; I am currently on Grand County Search and and have been an advanced EMT for over 15 years. For the past 18 years, I’ve greatly enjoyed being an assistant coach of the Grand County High School wrestling team.
Go Red Devils!
My priorities if elected
Defend Grand County residents’ quality of life.
There are two sides of the tourism-economy coin. Grand County reaps benefits from being a tourist resort destination, but excessive, unchecked growth negatively impacts residents and the character of our rural community. The County needs to push back on out-of-town developers trying to bypass our County’s zoning regulations and who threaten lawsuits to get their way. Our quality of life is at stake.
Commit to increasing affordable, workforce housing.
Many gateway communities similar to Grand County have determined there is not a silver bullet to address workforce housing. The good news is that Grand County is making progress on this problem by trying new, innovative approaches to make sure new housing benefits locals. But we need to try harder! To keep moving forward we need to emphasize workforce housing over second homes.
Protect our dark skies.
We are very lucky to live in an area with very dark skies. We must be proactive to keep them dark - not only because they are a tourism draw, but because they enhance our own health and well-being.
Look for ways to make our neighborhood streets quieter.
Noisy streets is the issue that almost all residents agree impacts their quality of life. I will continue the County’s work to find ways to decrease noise in residential neighborhoods.
Support preserving and protecting the public lands in Grand County.
Grand County’s public lands are world famous, and the County’s economy and residents’ quality of life are dependent on these lands.
